# TrafficVision® TMC platform overview

Summary of the TrafficVision® TMC software platform for Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). Operational and technical documentation is at [docs.trafficvision.com](https://docs.trafficvision.com/v3/).

## Purpose

TrafficVision software turns traffic monitoring cameras into intelligent sensors. Built for ITS, it monitors digitally encoded video from highway cameras to detect incidents immediately and collect real-time traffic data continuously.

TrafficVision helps traffic managers make proactive decisions from visually verifiable incident alerts on highways, bridges, and tunnels, and helps organizations get more value from existing and new video assets.

## Deployment options

TMC can be deployed as:

**Turnkey appliances**
- Live or recorded video from traffic monitoring cameras
- Computer network
- One or more TMC or TMC Remote computer appliances
- TMC Web Application

**Virtual machines**
- Live or recorded video from traffic monitoring cameras
- Computer network
- One or more VMs configured as a TMC Aggregation Node (TAN)
- TMC Web Application

The web application can receive feeds from cameras on the network, from cameras attached directly to some TMC Remote models, or analyze recorded video files. Deployments can scale to large camera counts.

## User accounts

The TMC Web Application supports:

1. **Admin**: full settings access; can create other user accounts
2. **User**: role-based access configured by an admin
3. **External service**: polls real-time data as JSON for other systems; no UI configuration access

## Application capabilities

**Tabs and features (v3):**
- Video monitoring and camera configuration (add, calibrate, presets, analytics settings)
- Map tab for network-wide situational awareness
- Settings and configurable alert rules
- Data tab: incident data, archived data, per-vehicle data, CSV export
- AI Verification for selected incident types
- Camera groups
- Email notifications with recipient groups and rules
- Incident reports: traffic dashboard, data download, monthly reports
- Account management (users, password reset)
- Developer integrations (API, Genetec Alert Manager, disaster recovery)

## AI verification

AI Verification applies to these incident types:

- Stopped vehicle / object
- Congestion
- Pedestrian
- Wrong-way detection

Verified results appear in live alerts, the incident API, and historic incident data. AI verification helps reduce false positives in high-volume environments.

## Integrations

- **Advanced Traffic Management Systems (ATMS)**
- **Variable message signs (VMS)** and dynamic response workflows
- **TrafficVision API v3**: see [API documentation](https://docs.trafficvision.com/v3/developer-tab/api/)
- **Genetec Security Center**: TrafficVision TMC Alert Manager maps cameras and reports incidents as Genetec events and alarms ([integration guide](https://docs.trafficvision.com/v3/developer-tab/genetec-alert/))
- **External services**: JSON polling via external service accounts

## Specialized modules

**Truck Overspeed Detection Module**: TMC capability for truck overspeed events with configurable speed thresholds, camera presets, web relay integration, and highway sign activation. Technical deployment details are in TMC documentation.
